The shooting took place around 5:40 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30 in the area of Palisade Avenue and Birdsey Street, police said.
Responding officers found the teen on Price Street, said police spokesman Av Harris.
An officer in the area at the time said he heard about eight shots.
Initially, the shooting had been reported as the city's second homicide of the year. But Harris reported around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday that the man was still hooked to life support, but would "end up as a homicide." Harris added that neurologists were doing final checks of vital signs to determine if he’s brain dead. Then, the breathing tube will at some point be removed.
Jawuan Green, 21, who was shot on Newfield Avenue on Jan. 16, was the city's first homicide. He had turned 21 two days before being gunned down. Last year, the city had 23 homicides.
